The Necromancer's Spire awaits

This mod adds a new dimension that can be accessed with a new key and portal frame : The Necroland.

DISCLAIMER : This mod was created for the Hytale Contest organized by Hypixel Studios & Curseforge.

It was made during a delay of 6 weeks and is a proof of concept of a new biome in Worldgen V2.

Content can be unfinished or missing.

What is the Necroland ?

The Necroland is a desecrated place where unholy spirits live in perpetual torment. 
This new biome was supposed to be part of the world as a new zone after the volcanic area, but due to technical limitations around the new Worldgen V2 system, it became a new instanced dimension.

 

How can I access this new place ?

To access the Necroland, you will need to find the Necrotic Shrine structure. It is a very small temple where you will find the Necrotic Gateway, as well as the Ritual Brazier. Give a Void Heart to the Ritual Brazier to acquire the Necrotic Key. This key will give you access to a one-trip to the necrotic dimension. (60 minutes)

 

What will I find in the Necroland ?

The Necroland is a worldgen V2 biome with new creatures, blocks and structures. You may find new places to loot, and creatures to fight, along with unique decorative blocks. But the real deal in this land is to find the Necromancer's Spire. A towering 200 blocks tall dungeon for your to explore and conquer.

Where can I find the Necromancer's Spire ?

The Necromancer dungeon is a rare and massive dungeon you may encounter in the land. It is quite rare but very visible in the distance as its impressive size makes it very visible. In this dungeon, you will find new blocks, creatures and parkour rooms to explore. You will also find the Necromancer crown. The crown collects souls and can summon undeads to fight alongside you.

What are the next steps in this project ?

6 weeks were not a lot to make a fully-fledged, polished, high-quality adventure mod for Hytale. Many ideas had to be scrapped in order to release the mod in time, here are the things we would like to add to the mod after the contest :

  • The Necromancer Boss fight
  • Better Worldgen features
  • The new Necrotic Boat to navigate in the necrotic waters (and any others)
  • The Necrotic Armor Stand (to place your armor)
  • Make the biome generate in the World instead of generating in an instanced dimension
  • Add crafting recipes with the new ore
  • Improve the caves

A few words about the general art direction of the project...

In order to conceptualize this new biome, we made a design moodboard with guidelines and art pillars, in order to fit the Hytale's specific style. We made a lot of research on how the biome should look like, feel like, and how it could fit into the Hytale world in its own unique way. We gathered a high amount of references for the world, elaborated a color palette for the environment, with this underworld kind of vibe, with this greenish/blueish color style.
We designed the biome around the undead theme. With keywords like "necromancy", "underworld" or "undead" to help us understand our project better. Lighting was a big part of our method, with a custom weather, fog, and a fair work on silhouettes and shapes. After 6 weeks of working on this mod, there is a lot of things we would have loved to add, but most of the time was used to understand how modding on Hytale works (and there are not a lot of tutorials online at the moment).
